Episode 5
The Adopt a Mile program is a hands-on way of observing coastal ecosystems at work. From documenting wildlife sightings and natural phenomena, to reporting on human activity, CoastWatchers contribute valuable data that help trace cause & effect over time. As guardians for their miles, they recognize that—for better and for worse—we are part of this ecosystem, too.
CoastWatcher Crystal Roy guides Emily and Alexandra along the South Coast "hidden gem" of Mile 52 in Port Orford, as we reflect on how interconnected we are with the species in our shared habitat.
CoastWatch & Listen is a community science & storytelling collaboration produced by Bedrock Theatre in partnership with Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition.
Special episode note: If you come upon a stranded marine mammal on the Oregon Coast (such as a seal, whale, or dolphin), call the NOAA West Coast Stranding Hotline at 1-866-767-6114. For other types of wildlife encounters, Oregon Shores shares more information on what to do and who to contact in their Volunteer Resources.
